Hilary Gettman, a fellow ICF member, is conducting coaching research as part of her dissertation at the University of Maryland. Hilary is creating a measure of coach quality based on work by the Center for Creative Leadership and others, and is seeking volunteers to complete an online survey (~15 min). In return, she will send you an individual feedback report.
How it can be used by participants: The measure will assess the level at which coaches provide assessment, challenge, tactical support, emotional support, support of emotion control, support of motivation control, and will assess their view (and the view of any clients they wish to send a survey to) of the level of trust they create, the perception of their expertise, and the quality of the working alliance they develop with their clients. While the scales are in validation phase and therefore haven’t been proven to predict various outcomes, the theory and research in other areas, as well as the existing literature regarding coaching, strongly indicate that they will be predictive of positive coaching outcomes. I will be able to give each participant individual feedback with normative data for comparison, and provide tips based on the research as to what are likely areas of strength they should leverage, or areas where they score lower and might want to develop.
