Tools to Build Your Coaching Business
In our March meeting we had a panel of well-established companies, like Boeing and Washington Mutual, who have committed to using coaching within their organizations. We asked them how they decided to bring coaching in, and we found out that usually a strong leader within the organization champions coaching, due to personal experience or opinion.
Savvy business leaders no longer need to be convinced that coaching is a powerful tool they can use to move to the next level, but getting into an organization and establishing credibility is not easy. Often you have to know the owner or a high level manager and have coached him or her personally.
This month we’ll be focusing on what has to happen to effectively bring in more clients.

Coaches Toolbox
Do you ever get caught up in the vocation of coaching rather than the selling of your coaching services?
*Rachel Lewis offered a clear delineation between marketing versus selling of coaching services.
Here are 5 tips on selling your coaching services:
1. Focus on the value and secondarily on the process.
2. Have a repeatable process (everyone wants a map on how to achieve their goals.)
3. Be clear about your accomplishment stories.
4. Understand your client’s business and what matters most to them.
5. Agree (through collaboration) on the program and fees in conversation and through written follow-up.
* Rachel Lewis spoke on the topic of sales and contracting for corporate coaching at our March meeting. She also recommends the following books/processes on sales (organizational):
--The New Solution Selling by Keith Eades
--Spin Selling by Neil Rackham
--Let’s Get Real or Let’s Not Play: The Demise of 20th Century Selling and the Advent of Helping Clients Success by Mahan Khalsa.

providing clarity and direction for a powerful life
1. Do you have a specialty area?
Relationships are challenging. They also can be the most exciting, rewarding, and fulfilling connections we have in our lifetimes. My coaching focuses on facilitating clients to identify blocks they may have in their troubled relationships, whether personal or business, and helping them remove those blocks so they can deepen their relationship satisfaction.
2. What was your profession before becoming a life coach?
I have more than 20 years of business experience in the health, medical, and non-profit fields. I’ve taught autistic children, facilitated Attitudinal Healing classes and workshops, and taught classes on healing relationships at the local community college. I was a co-director of a non-profit agency and most recently created and published newsletters for a nationally recognized online health website.
3. How would your friends describe you?
They would describe me as kind, thoughtful, smart, loyal, intuitive, and a “life coach at heart.”
4. What were some of the hardest things getting your business started?
Making the decision to leave a six-figure income to do something that I loved but that had little earning potential when I first started. Also, learning how to market my coaching services in a compelling way and differentiating myself in the coaching field.
5. Is there something in your life that inspired you to become a coach?
Ever since I was young I knew I was on the planet to be truly helpful. As I grew up, I inherently knew that my most fulfilling moments were when I had deep connections with other human beings. To connect with someone at the heart level was and still is an empowering experience. During a workshop through Landmark Education, I met someone who had hired a life coach. I was intrigued enough to hire the same coach to help me clarify my journey. From our first meeting I knew that I wanted to become a Life Coach. I was inspired by my coach’s ability to challenge me to live my dreams in all their wonderful possibilities. I attended CTI, became certified, and started coaching. My clients now inspire me with their courage, inner strength, humanness, humor, and love.
