Casino Night
Helps bring 2007 to a close!

The December meetings have always been more of a year-end celebration than a business meeting. This year’s event featured Casino Night where colleagues and friends took to the gaming tables to try their luck at blackjack, craps and roulette. While a number of us hadn’t a clue on how to play, let alone win, there were some who appeared to have spent some time “perfecting their game” somewhere other than a casino night (Vegas, Laughlin, Monte Carlo???).  During another outstanding dinner, a number of ICF OC chapter participants were recognized for their efforts during 2007.  For the event’s finale, everyone exchanged chips for raffle tickets and a raffle for a variety of donated prizes topped off the evening.

A special ‘thank you’ to the following companies who donated fabulous prizes:

Coach Week Team 2008

The Coach Week Committee met early in December.  We discussed different options for what we might do as a chapter for Coach Week 2008, and we decided to do another day-long event featuring our wonderful chapter Coaches.  The date is not finalized yet, and it will be sometime between February 2-8 which is International Coach Week.

The purpose of our event is to expose the community in general to what coaching is all about and how coaching can benefit people and organizations.  In addition to breakout sessions like last year, we would like to add complimentary coaching conversations throughout the day as well as possible coaching demonstrations.  We are currently seeking presenters, volunteers and coaches for the event.  If you are interested, please contact Randy Tabor by clicking here. To be a presenter, please include your name, topic title, and a brief description of your talk.  We look forward to seeing everybody at the event in February!

President’s Message- Nahid Casazza

Nahid CasazzaWhat Will Your Business Look Like in 2008?

Coaches tend to redefine themselves frequently throughout their careers.  This is probably bound to happen given that we are immersed in personal development on a daily basis, but when you think about it – what an amazing opportunity!  It’s so easy to get caught up in figuring out the perfect business name or choosing a particular niche.  But if there is a high likelihood that your main client base will change, then you have less pressure; you can just pick a direction for next year.  If it’s still working at the end of the year, you can continue with it.  If not, you will know more by then, and you will have grown personally, so there will be new possibilities open to you that don’t exist today.

Speaking of evolution and new possibilities, Douglas Gfeller, our new chapter president, has chosen the theme of “strategic partnerships” for 2008.  Every single meeting we will make a conscious effort to bring coaches together in a format that encourages development of successful business partnerships, starting with a big launch event in January.   I know I’m ready for this – I’m tired of doing it all myself, and I have tons of respect for the other coaches I’ve met in our chapter.  Just imagine who I might end up building something powerful with!  It’s like taking the wonderful emotional synergy that we have bolstered this year, and extending it into the financial realm.  I hope you are having a great holiday week, and that you will join me and our family of ICF coaches at our January meeting, to lay the foundation for a prosperous 2008!

Anyone interested in growing their coaching business this year?

Feel like you are doing it all alone?
"Creating Alliances" (Why do it alone?!)

Doug GfellerDoug Gfeller, incoming ICF Orange County President and expert on alliances, will be presenting what alliances are and how you can use them to build your practice.  Discover the power of alliances and Doug’s vision for making 2008 the Year of Alliances for ICF Orange County.  You will not only learn to use alliances but actually start creating them right in the January meeting, taking the first step to bringing your business to the next level.

This unique event will give you the opportunity to:

  • Get to better know your colleagues and how you might create alliances with some of them.
  • Create alliances with other businesses in the community that could propel your coaching business beyond belief this new year.
  • Participate in an event like we've never had before!

Glenn Stevenson, Ph.D.Assessment 101
by Glenn Stevenson

In the October issue of Insights, we began a series on assessments that coaches use to understand their clients better and to help their clients understand themselves.  This month, we continue the series with a look at the Keirsey Temperament Sorter-II.

This assessment yields a similar four-letter code as the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, which we examined in October.  However, the Keirsey Temperament Sorter-II is purported to measure temperament “hardwired from birth” instead of a person’s preferences on cognitive processes.  Still, the outcomes on the MBTI and the Keirsey Temperament Sorter-II are highly correlated, and which instrument a practitioner uses can depend on personal preferences.

Besides the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and the Keirsey Temperament Sorter-II, last month Insights profiled the DiSC.  In future months, we will provide reviews of the Enneagram, Birkman Method, Personal Style Indicator, Peoplemap, Real Colors, MAPP, OSI Polaris 360, Cerny Smith Adjustment Index, and Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument.

Assessment: Keirsey Temperament Sorter-II

Description:  Assesses an individual’s temperament (one’s disposition “hardwired from birth”) to build strong, lasting ties with others in one’s personal life and/or to help determine one’s natural role and functions within an organization.  Distinguishes four major temperaments and four types within each temperament.  The four temperaments are:

Artisans:  People wired to seize freedom and spontaneity.  They hunger to act on their impulses, to play, and to create.

Guardians:  People who seek to belong to a group.  They stabilize relationships through their responsible, conventional behavior.

Rationals:  People wired to acquire competence and intelligence.  They strive to learn, know, predict, and control resources and ideas.

Idealists:  People wired to pursue personal growth, authenticity, and integrity.  They yearn to develop fully as individuals and to facilitate others’ growth.

What do you enjoy most about coaching?
I enjoy working with my clients to create a new awareness about themselves. I love being part of their “Ah Ha” moments. Watching them become more fulfilled, happier and improve their health. See them tap into their own wisdom about their lives, careers and relationships. It is truly magical to witness them enjoy their lives to the fullest. What could be better than that?

Do you have a specialty area?

I have 3 niche areas to my coaching business.

Health & Wellness Coaching (with a focus on weight loss):

I help my clients understand how their current lifestyle, attitudes and behaviors are interfering with their health, longevity and ultimate success.

As a Certified Wellness Inventory Coach, I support my clients in assessing their current health awareness and design a personalized wellness action plan. The wellness program I use was developed by John Travis, M.D., a pioneer in the wellness industry. I coach my clients to bring awareness about the 12 dimensions of wellness and how these dimensions interact with each other and impact their overall health and well-being. Through this process, my clients become motivated to change their lifestyle. This new awareness creates energy and forward movement to become masters of their own wellness and create the success they desire. I believe when you are operating in true state of wellness, your life and career or business success goals are more easily attained.

As a certified Life Strategist through LearningDrPhil.com, I utilize Dr. Phil’s Ultimate Weight Solution Program to help my clients uncover; “not what they are eating, but what’s eating them.” Utilizing this program I am able to help my clients become aware of their emotional eating patterns, their current lifestyle and the impact it is having to their health and life success. I work with them to make the necessary lifestyle changes to lose weight, feel great and have the active life they have always wanted.

Professional Women’s Coaching:

I work with professional women who want to work “smarter instead of harder” to meet their career desires and have time to enjoy their lives by creating a better work/life balance.

I help them strengthen their communication and emotional intelligence skills.  Improve their business confidence and savvy. Fine-tune their decision making abilities. Teach advanced coaching skills to create fully synergist teams and improve overall productivity

I work with all my clients to infuse more passion into their work and develop more sustainable personal and business relationships.

Mentor Coaching:

I work with coaches who are interested in obtaining their certification and moving up to the next level of coaching. I assist coaches to have a thorough understanding of the coaching core competencies and prepare fully for the certification and testing process. By creating awareness of areas of true strength and areas that may need some additional focus, I help coaches trust in themselves and their own coaching abilities with heart felt confidence. I support coaches to coach from their heart, utilizing their intuition and the power it brings in mastering their own remarkable coaching style.
