President’s Message

No, no, no!
To all those who came up to me at our last meeting – after I mentioned in front of the room that I was “leaving” – I didn’t actually mean I’m going to leave the chapter, just the role of acting President. I will still be involved as the Immediate Past President, as was my agreement in the November 2004 elections, when I accepted the wonderful three year role in the elected position of President Elect, President and then Immediate Past President. I’ll be around after all, how could I not be?

Taking a stroll down Memory Lane…
…via the wonderful newsletter archives that our Publications Director, Beth Griffith along with our VA Extraordinaire, Angee Robertson, has put together for us, I thought about what you and I as chapter participants have been ‘digging into’ in our chosen profession as coaches over the last year.

I’ve listed the work that both Jerry Beck and Lydia Welton, past and present Programs Directors, respectively, Diane Pearce, Membership Director, and Sandy Scheppmann, 2006 Secretary, have provided for us. Take your own stroll in “Memory Lane of 2006 Events” and notice what we’ve accomplished over the last year. Use the link provided to go out to the newsletter archives to read all the articles that Beth and our previous Publications Director, Bradley Morgan, put into our newsletters.

What wasn’t included in the events listed…
…was our official role of Affiliate for the 1st Annual Womanaire Extraordinaire Conference (WEC) at the Long Beach Convention Center in October where Elaine Provencher, Marketing and PR Director, organized our valuable involvement with an ICF-OC Chapter presence. If you remember, or wish to be a part of next October, the WEC is a unique small business women’s event that uses coaches for the event. For example, there is a business presentation, perhaps on the 1-2-3’s of setting up a board for the business; then an hour long small group coaching conversation with each group being facilitated by a coach. The ICF-OC Chapter was represented by several of our participants: Scott Peck, Linda Hodge, Sandy Scheppmann, Glenn Stevenson and me. Tina Hiatt, the WEC creator, was impressed with the professionalism of ICF coaches at the conference and has suggested we speak further about using us in the future of the WEC. Yahoo! You go, coaches! And… look for our involvement in the months ahead.

However let’s move on to what’s happening right now.
We have a fabulous 2006 completion holiday party in a few short weeks – a Holiday Murder Mystery Dinner Party. Anita Goldin, Logistics Director, along with Lydia Welton, Programs Director, and Glenn Stevenson, Treasurer, have been putting great effort into planning to celebrate our wonderful year! This is another event of the year. The ICF-OC Chapter will take over the large restaurant area of The Sports Club LA / Irvine, where the room will be beautifully decorated in holiday cheer. We will have music and a special dinner and the full Sports Club bar available to us, along with a deliciously mysterious coaches murder mystery caper. Yes, we will have a short ceremony to initially pass the keys to the office of President from me to Nahid Casazza but watch out because our actors and actresses could be deviously setting up a murder right in front of your eyes! Plan to come and even invite your spouses and spousal equivalents to a different way to celebrate the holidays hosted by an international group who has customized the Murder Mystery Caper for the ICF-OC Chapter coaches! Look for more details on our website at: www.icforangecounty.org.

Officially, Nahid Casazza, President Elect, will be taking the office of President on January 1, 2007.
What I’ve seen so far are her efforts in choosing a powerful Board and planning the events of the year in an orderly fashion. She has been able to lay the groundwork for a year of thoughtful consideration for the learning of what we as coaches and the profession of coaching has available to us next. As she shared at the Chapter meeting last week, there are three themes based in our 1-5 year Vision that have naturally evolved for us to step into. The themes are directly out of the Vision we created for the future by the ICF-Orange County Chapter:

We are the organization where coaches improve their coaching skills.
We are a vibrant and welcoming culture.
We market coaching and create awareness of the benefits of coaching.

Personally, I look forward to working under Nahid’s leadership for the future of our chapter and for our profession.

Last by definitely NOT LEAST this month…
…begin to put away your monthly allowance for the 12th Annual International Coach Federation Conference which will take place right here in our own backyard of Long Beach!

Do you know what this means?!!! For those of you who have not had a chance to attend one of the international events, you will be able to commune with coaches from all over the world – there were 33 countries that were represented at the conference this year – all who take the extra effort to come to the United States to rub noses with us and each other all for the presence and future of coaching in the world. This year the Quantum Thinking on Human Potential annual conference was hosted in the wonderful city of St. Louis with gobs of valuable information available strictly for the inspiration of learning for the profession of coaching.

Next year it will be here!! Do not miss it!! Again, this is not an event to miss… and if you are wondering, YES! Attend both the pre-conference and the wonderful gala on Saturday night. Plus if it’s been awhile since you have danced, get those dancing shoes out of the closet and broken in for a completion gala event where the room is full of coaches dancing to who-cares-who and just for the joy of being together and who are up to contributing to the world of possibility.

Additionally, for those who choose to take on a leadership role in your local chapter, be prepared for powerful leadership learning and a fabulous special celebration befitting your role as leader in our global community. (This reminds me, committee positions are available for you in the ICF-OC Chapter to bring the wonderful legacy of your contributions in the world. See our website for which position you are interested in.)

Okay, okay… I have a couple of more last-minute-items:

Radio show interviews for coaches by coaches!
There is a new radio show on a bi-weekly Friday morning timeslot at www.kuci.org/talk called, “Coaching Conversations with Patricia Hirsch” where one can listen via 88.9 FM but more importantly via Live Internet Stream and which can also be podcast on iTunes! Beth Griffith and I are putting together a Request for Proposal for coaches to be able to apply to be interviewed on this radio show all about introducing coaching to the world. If an ICF-OC Chapter participant is interviewed, we will share it on the ICF-OC website which will aid people in determining not only what coaches’ offer, but in particular, what you have to offer as an ICF-OC coach. Guests so far have included Pamela Richarde, 2006 ICF global President, and our ICF-OC Chapter 2006 Elected Officers, Nahid Casazza, Glenn Stevenson, and Sandy Scheppmann. Look for more information in future Insights newsletters.

Finally, my acknowledgement to you…
Thank you for who you are for me as presiding President of our Chapter. My promise to you to always be available for growth and learning and your willingness to teach me from who you are being for me is awe inspiring. I love you, my fellow coaches, and I love who you are that you see making a difference in your fellow human beings lives is the path that you are choosing to live into. Thank you. Thank you for being you and allowing me to share in your journey in this life. Know this; it is my honor to do so.

With love and admiration for who you ‘be’ in your life!
