President’s Message

Hello fellow coaches, thank you for making such a difference in our chapter!

It seems that with a renewed interest of our coaches becoming involved in the success of our chapter, numerous opportunities have opened for growth in our coaches' businesses and continued education. Perhaps with the changes that we noticed last year in the global organization of the International Coach Federation, there has been an increase of participation in both our 'seasoned' / senior coaches, along with our new coaches absorbing as much as they can as coaches as well as bridging the legacy of what they have already accomplished in their lives. Both groups are contributing on the different committees to learn and support us all in our profession of coaching. As a consequence, we are able to concentrate more on what YOU want in the professional organization that you have chosen to support you as a coach. Once again thank you, because with your participation each of you is powerfully strengthening the continuing presence of the profession of coaching in the world!

Now to on to some worthy news!

For those graduates of ICF Accredited Coach Training Programs (ACTP) and those of you who are just beginning to research which school you will wish to attend, take notice! We have scheduled several representatives of ACTPs for our Special August Event. There will be no "Business and Coaching Excellence" (BCE) programs that evening. There will be a panel of representatives first to answer any general questions our coaches may have about both the graduate and beginning programs their schools offer. Diner will be served and then, we will have the opportunity to get 'up close and personal' as the ACTP reps are assigned a table to meet the participants at individual tables to demonstrate their style of coaching and to answer more in-depth questions.

We have requested the ACTP representatives join us for discussions for coaches of all levels because of the focus we have noticed in our 4-5:00 PM BCE programs. Our coaches are interested in continuing to strengthen the profession by working towards becoming credentialed through the ICF global organization. I have realized that as a coach, I will never be complete in my learning and that exploring humanity is a bit like 'dancing on jello.' Come take advantage of the opportunity to open up the possibility of another look into learning to support our fellow human beings as coaches.

Have you been out to the ICF global website lately? Have you investigated any of the resources? You may begin with the SIGs (Special Interest Groups) that are available to each of us and which are a wonderful way to immerse yourself in the global community that we share. Try this first! http://www.coachfederation.org/ICF/For+Current+Members/Find+a+SIG/ is the specific link as a current member of the ICF. Join a SIG then do come back to our chapter and share with us how you are using the conversations to forward yourself in your path of coaching.

Last but certainly not least, take a good look at your participation in the ICF Annual International Conference November 1- 4, 2006 in St. Louis, Missouri. I promise you, it is not an event to miss. Last year was my first ICF conference and I truly wondered where I had been focusing that I did not see the opportunity for learning and communing with my colleagues. This will be the 11th Annual and with a subject focus of "Quantum Thinking on Human Potential: Tools for the New Frontier." Think about that a moment. This is the frontier that we have chosen as coaches. I for one, am hugely curious as to what 'I don't know that I don't know' in the area of quantum thinking and will be happy to meet you there. If you choose to join me, do let me know by sending me an email at: president@icforangecounty.org. With enough of us, we could schedule an Orange County lunch one day!

Let me know, I'd love to be able to think through what we heard in future conversations here at home.

Thanks for reading and for your support for a profession worth living into!

With admiration for who you are!
Patricia Hirsch
2006 President, ICF-OC
