President’s
Message
It's
autumn now and the leaves are beginning to change and there's
a chill in the air that says, "time to get your warmer
clothes out of the back of the closet." Yes, even here
in southern California!
Autumn was once one of the hardest times
of my life. My family had a couple of tragedies that occurred.
We lost my oldest sister and six years later we lost my mother,
both to automobile accidents. It was with a coach that I discovered
that when autumn approached, I was "automatic" in
wanting to hide out from life and not to be involved with
others. It was with a coach that I began to notice what being
automatic was all about and excitedly how I might approach
my life more from the age I am rather than the age that the
tragedies occurred, I was 13 and 16 years old respectively.

HOW TO ARTICULATE
THE VALUE OF COACHING
Presented by: Nahid Casazza, MBA
One of the most challenging things about
being a coach is building up a client base. In order to do
this successfully, you need to be able to clearly explain
why three to four conversations with you is worth $300-$500.
In this workshop we will walk through a process
that breaks down what we do as coaches into tangible benefits
for our clients and you'll leave with concrete examples that
you can use in your practice immediately.
You will leave with:
- A clear distinction between what
you do as a coach and how the client benefits from it.
- Guidelines on what you can and cannot
guarantee a potential client when discussing coaching services.
- Concrete examples you can use immediately
to explain your services more clearly to prospective clients.
Headliner Event:
6:30 - 8:30pm
YOU ARE HOW YOU SPEAK
Freeing your natural voice to find your genuine voice
Presented by: Patricia Shanks, Voice Studio
Effective coaching depends on effective communicating.
Effective communication depends in large part on efficient
voice use. Voices speak volumes about their users. Finding
and using the genuine voice is essential to instilling confidence
in your clients. Is your voice strong and resonant? Is it
too high or too low for your liking? Does your voice tire
after a long work day? Learn the ins and outs and dos and
don'ts of effective and efficient voice use, and pick up some
useful tips and exercises to help you optimize your speaking
voice. You'll take away an enhanced understanding of the voice
that may translate to your coaching practice in other surprising
ways.

Seven
Principles Of Networking With Integrity
by Nahid
Casazza
My colleagues and I have spoken on this
topic at a few organizations, and the response has been incredible.
I think it’s because it feels so fake to go out into
a room of strangers and try to “project an image.”
It’s such a relief to learn a more comfortable, genuine,
and effective use of your networking time.
Here are the principles, for you to use and
enjoy!
- Only pursue networking contacts you genuinely
like and want to get to know better.
“Decision-makers” tolerate your
sales pitch about as much as you tolerate those dinnertime
telemarketers. Connect with people you are naturally interested
in, get to know each other, and enjoy your conversations.
These are the people who will remember you, and mention your
name when they run into someone who can get value from what
you have to offer.

Magic
and Coaching
by Philip
H. Henderson
The strongest magic trick is one that occurs
in the hands of the spectator. In that instance, the spectator
is convinced that the magician did not do anything tricky
because, for example, the cards were in the spectator’s
hands all the time. How could the magician influence what
happened?
When I am coaching a client, I want the “magic”
to occur in the hands of my client. I do not want my client
to think that I “fixed” them. I want very little
credit for the part that I play so that my client feels independent
and capable of making his or her own choices without me present.
How
is coaching like magic?

Strategy Meeting
Offsite
(from Nahid Casazza, 2007 President
– Elect)
On Wednesday, October 18th from 9am to 2pm,
we will be having our 2007 offsite strategy meeting. All chapter
participants are invited. If you did not receive an invitation,
it is because we did not have your correct e-mail address,
so please contact me at nahid@aspyrre.com
for the details. We have a great group of people at ICF-OC
this year, and the possibilities for what we can do with this
organization are incredible. One of my passions is to build
an organization that provides participants with an even higher
level of support – both in business development and
in coaching excellence. We have many brilliant ideas on the
table and we’ll use our offsite to decide the focus
and plan for 2007. Come join the team and be part of the vision
– working together towards success for all of us!
